“Gratitude has the power to transform everything: our perceptions, our experiences, and our state of mind” -We: A Manifesto for Women Everywhere (Gillian Anderson + Jennifer Nadel)
A few weeks ago I started reading a wonderful book written by Gillian Anderson and Jennifer Nadel, titled ‘We: A Manifesto for Women Everywhere“. I’ve only read 1/3 of the book and it’s already had a huge impact on my life. ‘We’ is a manifesto for change that asks women to “imagine a sisterhood- across all creeds and cultures. An unspoken agreement that we, as women, will support and encourage one another.” and It’s one of the most empowering and inspiring books I’ve ever read.
The ‘We’ manifesto is broken down into 9 principles but before you can start the journey you must first prepare. The first essential practice is “Gratitude: A Mind-Altering Substance”. The exercise in this practice asks you to take 5 deep breaths in and out and then write down ten things in your life right now that you’re grateful for. Today I’m sharing one of my favorite gratitude lists with you. I’m proud of this particular list because I was somehow able to practice gratitude even on a difficult day where I struggled emotionally.

Thank You For…
1.) My Father
2.) Transportation to auditions
3.) A twin sister who will run lines & memorize sides with me all night long
4.) Tiny opportunities like the audition today for “Hand to God”. Getting there was frustrating. I even cried hysterically over something completely unrelated. I was more upset, I think…that I felt trapped. There was a conflict with my sister, I yelled at my dad because I thought we would be late, and then we got lost. It was a nightmare but once I got there and I was in the audition room it all felt right. I know what I’m meant to do. I can’t let anything discourage me.
5.) The time I’ve been able to spend with my older sister and nephews. It’s been six years and it’s weird and wonderful and I love them. Jakarie, 6 would like my sister and I to be his godmothers and kne-j, 10 loves pokemon cards and video games. We filmed a YouTube video together and spent a day at the beach. I never get tired of the hugs, I can’t imagine they’ll love me to this extent forever.
6.) Reese’s Easter Eggs
7.) Giant Full Moons that cause people to lose their minds and act insane – witnessed that the other night
8.) Good Books
9.) Clean Drinking Water
10.)Things that scare me but also make me feel ALIVE!
That day, a few things went wrong but I surprised myself! There is so much to be thankful for! I’ve discovered that on days where I find the time to notice the positive things in my life I feel much better about my anxieties. Stopping to say ‘Thank You’ for beautiful things, both large and small allows me to paint a more positive image of my life and I’m glad I could share this list with you. I hope this post inspires you to practice gratitude, who knows, maybe you’ll reveal a whole new world of positivity and happiness in your own life.
