Today is the first Monday in May which means the Met Gala is happening right now! I’ve been watching red carpets my entire life. When I was younger I’d sit in front of the TV screen before huge award shows to watch red carpets and sketch my own designs. Back then, I wanted to be a fashion designer and red carpets ignited a real inner-desire to get better at my craft. Red Carpets always seemed magical, galvanizing! In my teen years, I discovered the Met Gala (AKA “The Met Ball”) in all its creative glory and once I had discovered it, there was no looking back!
The Met Gala is an annual fundraising gala for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City which marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. It’s basically a huge playground for designers, muses, and celebrities. Every year, for the past few years, on the first Monday in May I watch the Met Gala red carpet arrivals. I don’t sketch as much as I used to but it’s still fascinating to watch. The Met Gala has a different theme every year and this year’s theme is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. There were a ton of heavenly fashion looks on the carpet tonight! Here are the most eye-catching red carpet looks from the Met Gala 2018.
